I’ve been a photographer since 2003, I started with a crappy point and shoot at my parents’ house, taking photos of sunsets in their back garden. As time went on I needed a better quality camera and moved on to a Fuji Finepix S5500 – for a 4 megapixel camera I was impressed by the quality of the shots I was taking! It looked like an SLR and made me feel like photography was more than just a hobby – I took my camera everywhere with me, but eventually became tired of its limitations.
In 2005 I moved to an 8 megapixel point and shoot Panasonic Lumix TZ3, because it had the 10x optical zoom I was used to in the Fuji – but the white balance was really bad and everything ended up coming out blue.
Finally, in 2007 I bit the bullet, got a credit card, and purchased a Canon EOS 400D with standard 18-55mm Canon lens, and a Tamron 75-300 zoom/macro lens. I upgraded to the 450D, and got me a Speedlite flash and a great 50mm lens, as well as a few others.
Drawing
I started drawing in school, my teachers cursed me for my wanton destruction of anything made of paper or card. I think they call it doodling..!
As time went on I stopped sketching on pre-printed books and magazines, and picked up some plain paper – my love affair with drawing began proper around 2000.
Since then I’ve produced over 150 drawings, around 25 of those I still consider doodles, but the rest I dubbed Linear Art (numbered #1 through #130) The largest is A1 size, the smallest A6.
I called the series Linear Art because they’re formed of lines (funnily enough) and I leave a clear gap between lines – I chide myself if I let lines touch, and then I chide myself again for putting rules in the way of art.
My work took off after I moved to London and met a fantastic artist called Ella, she taught me movement on a page, and starting from Linear #65 my work moved in leaps and bounds. Without Ella’s intervention I seriously believe my passion for drawing would have petered out.
Life
I’m a contemplative, quiet guy (except on a night out) who struggles with his inner demons regularly. I think a lot, but I generally speak before thinking. I smoke, I drink, I get on with girlfriends parents, I’m a regular good catch! Join me in my photographic and illustrated journey of life.. read on..
